For the magical 2017 FW collection of Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton, the designer took her team to Cornwall, the southernmost county of the United Kingdom. It’s a landscape which inspired the sculptor Barbara Hepworth, and has ancient stone circles, medieval churches and—if you look hard enough—a surviving subculture of paganism and healing witchcraft.
The sense of craftmanship, the use of leather and sheepskin, albeit dyed in a devilish, fiery red, evoke this paganism that the collection referenced, although with a completely modern take on it.
This coat, weighing some 5 Kg, is not for the faint of heart!
The coat is composed of paneled black leather and fiery red dyed shearling fur.
With golden hardware, the jacket reveals many leather straps and zipper details, some opening to pockets, some purely decorative, allowing the wearing the tighten the coat in many different ways, from halfway open until all the way closed with a leather strap around the upright collar.
A masterpiece!
